Description

Galvanised Metal Buckles

Galvanised metal buckles are heavy-duty tensioning buckles designed to secure various types of synthetic strapping—including polypropylene (PP), woven, composite, and hotmelt strapping. They are made from galvanised steel wire, which provides strength and corrosion resistance.

They are steel wire buckles, coated with a layer of zinc (galvanised) to prevent rust.
When strapping is threaded through the buckle and tensioned, the buckle’s teeth and wire shape “bite” into the strap, holding a high level of tension.

Common uses

Metal buckles are used with:

1. Polypropylene (PP) strapping

  • For medium-duty applications
  • Provide stronger hold than plastic buckles
  • Suitable for parcels, cartons, and light pallets

2. Woven polyester strapping

  • Common in industrial pallet securing
  • Buckles work with the woven fibres for excellent grip
  • High break strain and good shock absorption

3. Composite strapping (corded polyester with plastic coating)

  • Buckles grip into the outer polymer coating
  • Ideal for export shipments and heavy loads
  • Replaces steel strapping in many situations

4. Hotmelt (bonded) polyester strapping

  • The buckle works with the bonded fibres
  • Used for medium to heavy pallets, timber, engineering goods

Why galvanised metal buckles are used

  • Very strong – far stronger than plastic buckles
  • Re-tensionable – you can tighten the strap again if needed
  • Rust-resistant – the zinc coating protects in outdoor and export conditions
  • Reliable with all polyester strapping types
  • Safer than steel strapping – no sharp edges
  • Quick to use with a manual tensioner

How they work

  1. Strap is looped through the buckle to form a closed system.
  2. The second strap end is threaded in the opposite direction.
  3. A strapping tensioner is used to pull tight.
  4. The shape of the buckle prevents the strap from slipping—wire corners “lock” into the strap.
